Yumiko Yoneda (°1965, Matsue, Japan – woont en werkt in Den Haag, Nederland)
In een stille atmosfeer baden de organische druppelvormige of ronde sculpturen van Yumiko Yoneda in een intieme wereld van witten, grijzen en zwarten. Naast hout of klei, werkt ze vooral met holle piepschuimen kernen die bekleed zijn met gips en een modelleerpasta die het bedekkende weefsel tactiel maakt. Elke fase van het maakproces is ontwikkeld met aandacht voor het geheel en lokt uit om te strelen en te aaien. Ze kneedt en vormt haar subtiele beelden tot glooiende afgeronde objecten die tegelijkertijd leeg en vol zijn. Haar cirkels, ovalen en bolvormige structuren in gedempt koloriet ademen concentratie en sensualiteit en balanceren tussen alles en niets, kracht en rust.
Yumiko Yoneda (°1965, Matsue, Japan – lives and works in The Hague, Netherlands)
Within a quiet atmosphere, Yumiko Yoneda’s drop-shaped or round sculptures are immersed in an intimate world of white, grey and black hues. In addition to wood or clay, she mainly works with hollow polystyrene cores, which she covers with plaster and modelling paste to make the covering tissue tactile. Each stage of the production process is performed with the final result in mind, i.e. to encourage observers to caress and pet it. She kneads and shapes her delicate sculpture into rounded objects that are both empty and full. Her circles, ellipses and spherical structures in muted colours radiate concentration and sensuality, and balance between everything and nothing, between strength and tranquility.
