Luc Hoekx (°1964, Lommel – woont en werkt in Mol, België)

Het oeuvre van Luc Hoekx situeert zich in een persoonlijk onderzoek naar de picturale ruimte. Hij experimenteert met verschillende dragers, diverse verfsoorten of grafisch materiaal en streeft naar een ruimtelijke werking door tegenstellingen in kleur, structuur of gelaagdheid. Elk werk is als een bedachtzaam opgebouwde compositie, ontstaat vanuit een getekend raster en wordt vrij ingevuld, meestal sterk geometrisch maar evengoed met lyrische partijen. Hij is geïnspireerd door zijn nabije omgeving, atelier of architecturale elementen zoals grondplannen en maquettes in de sfeer van het hermetische brutalisme of de lichtheid van het bauhaus. Zijn collages op papier zorgen voor een uitnodigende ervaring dankzij zijn zin voor ruimtelijkheid, kleurverdeling en evenwichtige aanpak.

Luc Hoekx’s work is about a personal investigation into pictorial space. He experiments with various carriers, a variety of paint types and graphical material, and aims for a spatial effect through colour, structural and layered opposites. Each creation appears to be a carefully thought-out composition originating from a drawn grid, which is then filled with usually strongly geometrical or lyrical parts. He is inspired by his immediate surroundings, his studio, or architectural elements like floor plans and scale models with an atmosphere of hermetic brutalism or the light-footedness of Bauhaus. His collages on paper create an inviting experience, courtesy to his sense of spatiality, colour distribution and his balanced approach.
