HERINNERING ALS CHEMIE EN RICHTING

Joanna Vestey is een kunstenaar die werkt met fotografie en geluid. Ze ontwikkelt manieren om werk voorbij het gebruik van traditionele methoden door te fotograferen en experimenteren met lange duurzame blootstellingen en het visualiseren van geluid en data-scapes.

Joanna Vestey ‘gevoelig voor licht’ plaatst ons in direct contact met het fotografische negatief. Ze presenteert ons beelden van het substraat van fotografie, de reële materie van het beeld. Om het project te maken, verzamelde Vestey ongebruikte dozen en pakketten met fotografische film die sinds hun productie in hun dozen zijn verzegeld. Vellen en glazen platen die direct blootgesteld worden aan licht.

MEMORY AS CHEMISTRY AND DIRECTION

Joanna Vestey is a photographic artist working with photography and sound.  Her practice explores tracing and visualising time and stewardship. Since 2015, she has been developing ways to make work ‘beyond’ using traditional methods of photographing experimenting with long durational exposures and visualising sound and data-scapes.

Joanna Vestey’s Sensitive to Light places us in direct contact with the photographic negative. She presents us with images of the substrate of photography, the concrete matter of the image. To make the project, Vestey collected unused boxes and packets of photographic film – sheets and glass plates, cut into rectangles for studied single exposures, which have sat sealed within their boxes since their manufacture.
